There the thing I liked best was the groom's carriage.
There no one could take a minute's rest
And I exclaimed as I saw the bride so beautifully dressed
Every where there was the sound of laughter
It was the marriage of a poor man's daughter
The bride and the groom made a beautiful pair
But everybody grumbled that there were no chairs
The bride's in-laws were grumbling about the dowry
Shouting curses the groom's father marched off in a fury
And so came a sudden end to the marriage
The groom went away alone in the carriage.
