What is there across the stream?
If only I could see,
My life would pass more leisurely,
And my days would feel care-free.
If only I could go across the stream,
And live like that bright blue bird,
All my worries would be gone with the wind,
And my life would be less hard.
If only that bird would take me with it,
Across the golden stream,
Then gone would be the cattle, the sweat and the
tears,
And peacefully shall I live my dream.
Let me just go to the other side of the stream,
And all of you shall be amazed.
The tilling, the washing, the heat and the cows,
Will be left behind with the pasture and harvest.
The poverty and the sorrow,
Shall in the stream drown.
My life shall touch the sky,
And I'll be a king with a crown.
The village, the hut,
And an ever hungry gut,
Shall go along with the depressing frown.
Then one day, I went across the stream.
And I found a land with grass the same green.
There were huts, like mine, and people equally poor,
And I realized what a fool I had been.
