| Trip to Katra and Jammu & Kashmir |
I would like to share my wonderful experience of a trip Katra and Jammu & Kashmir on last winter vacation. My dad and mom had planned a long awaited trip to these places. I was very excited. We packed our bags happily and started our journey on 19th December from Kolkata. We boarded the morning train from Kolkata station. There were around 40 people in the group with us. We planned the trip with a Travel Agent. It was an early morning train and we ate breakfast once we settled down in our compartment. It was real fun for me. After that we had lunch in the afternoon and thereafter dinner. I was enjoying every bit of the journey. We reached Jammu at around 10 am after 2 days. It was a long journey but not that tiring as we were having lots of fun. We got down at the Jammu station and there was a mini bus waiting to take us to Katra, the place of Mata Vaishno Devi.
We ate lunch in a road side eatery. We reached Katra in the afternoon and got our room in the hotel. The hotel was good and cozy. We freshened up and had our evening snacks and thereafter my mom, dad and me went out to see the Katra town and do some street shopping. It was cold and the temperature was around 9 degrees. After some time we got hack to the hotel and there were two other children of my age and we started playing by running up and down the stairs. We had our dinner and went to bed early as the next day early morning we were planning to visit Mata Rani. We woke up in the morning and it was very cold, I stood in the balcony and could see the mountains in front of me on top of which the Temple of Mata Rani is situated. I had a shower and got ready for the journey. My dad asked me whether I can walk the distance to the temple and I agreed so we started walking and it was very tiring because it is almost a ten hours walk up and down. The temple was beautiful and we offered Puja there. Walking half way down my dad decided to take horses for us to get down, as we were very tired. I and my mom got up on one horse and my dad on the other. It was a fearful experience as the horse was walking down the mountains. We finally reached hotel late at night very tired and had our dinner and went to bed.
Next morning we were planning to go to Srinagar. We boarded an early morning bus after our breakfast and started the journey. When we got down to have our lunch, the type of the bus leaked and we got stuck on the middle of the road for almost two hours. We started the journey again and reached Srinagar very late in the evening. It was very cold and the temperature was very low as my dad mentioned. We checked-in at the hotel just opposite the famous Dal Lake and went to sleep. Next morning I woke up early as we were supposed to go for sight seeing. The destinations were Shankaracharya Temple, Mughal Garden, Rose Garden, Hazratbal Mosque and Dal Lake. All these places are very beautiful. I liked Mughal Garden the most. I saw lots of beautiful flowers and a very big garden in front of the mountains and the beautiful Dal Lake. My mom took few pictures wearing Kashmiri dresses, she was happy and looking pretty.
We went back to the hotel to have our lunch. It was a very tasty Bengali food prepared for us. After lunch we went for a boat ride in Dal Lake in a Shikara. I was very happy with my mom and dad. We saw a very big floating market in the lake. Next day we went to Gulmarg. The place was very beautiful-full of snow, the road was beautiful and I saw Christmas trees all around covered with snow. The valley was beautiful. There were two other children with me and we played in the snow making snow balls and throwing at each other. I also have taken a sledge ride along with my friends. I was very happy but it was very cold up there.
The place we visited next was Sonmarg and Pahalgam on the other two days. These two places were also very beautiful and full of snow everywhere. I got a leather jacket for me from Pahalgam and a cricket bat. It was time to return back and I was sad leaving Kashmir. We came down to Jammu and took a train back to Kolkata. I have told my dad that I would like to go again to Kashmir in summer.
