Daisy was crying. hiding her face in her palms. She felt terribly sad at the thought of her shifting to a new town. She sat on her bed thinking about the past. She was going to miss her friends, her house and her school. Moreover, she was tensed. She had been receiving strange letters Since the past week.As the day of departure drew nearer, the number of letters also increased. When she got the first letter she had assumed it to be a silly prank. But the incidence reoccurred and the matter grew serious. Often she would get letters threatening her. The person writing the letter wanted some help from Daisy but he wouldn't tell who he was or how to help him. Daisy had not shared these letters with anyone.
Ammy!
That day Daisy came back home after attending a small farewell party organised by her friends, as she would be leaving early next day. She walked up to the door, a black envelope caught her gaze. She took it up in her hands and went up to her room. She knew that another letter awaited her inside the envelope. She swiftly tore the envelope and took out the letter. It said,
"Hello Daisy Despite my repeated pleas you are still not helping me. You are going away tomorrow. You are the only friend I am left with. All my friends avoid me. May be because they think I am weird and now you too are leaving. Okay. Go on. No one understands me, Neither will you"
Daisy was even more morose after reading this letter. She felt like she was doing terrible injustice to someone. Half heartedly she finished the rest of her packing. She pitied the person writing her such letters. But this feeling did not last long. While Daisy was busy taking out books from her bag she found another such letter. This was a rather rude one though. The writer always wrote the same plea but ended it in different notes. He had threatened Daisy that he would do something really bad if she goes. After reading this letter an unknown person wanted her help but wouldn't tell her how. Angrily and carelessly she threw the letter away. In the course of the day she found many such envelopes. Some in the courtyard, some stuck on windows and some on her doorstep. But she did not tend to open them and read the letters inside. Maybe, because she was tired of this game of letters.
The day passed by like a flying bird and it was time to leave. Daisy walked on all the nooks and corners of her house and clicked as many pictures as possible. She took a last glance at her house and turned to her parents. A number of her neighbours had come down to the road to bid the family farewell. Daisy talked to everyone and then climbed into the car. She forced herself to stop crying and looked out of the window. Her gaze fell on her doorstep, one which she had used for years. There was a pink coloured parcel on it. She looked desperately towards it. One of the neighbours quickly picked the parcel up and handed it to Daisy. Daisy immediately tore the wrapper. She discovered a framed picture and a letter inside. The letter was considerably shorter. It said.
"HI DAISY! THIS IS ME WRITING TO YOU FOR THE LAST TIME. YOU HAVE BEEN A GREAT FRIEND THROUGH THE PAST YEARS. I KNOW YOU HAVE NOT READ SOME OF MY LETTERS. IF YOU GET TIME PLEASE DO READ. I KNOW YOU STILL CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHO AM I. SURELY YOU WILL KNOW IT AFTER READINGTHIS LETTER. BEST OF LUCK FOR YOUR LIFE AHEAD.
YOURS LOVINGLY
Ammy.
And after that there was an address. Daisy looked at the framed picture. It was her childhood picture. She was sharing an ice cream with another girl in the picture. Her eyes widened at this thought. She quickly took out the rest of the letters that she did not read. All the letters had the name 'Ammy' in them but only the present one had the address. She looked at the address for one more time. She realised the address was just across the road. Daisy requested her father to stop the car. She climbed out and blindly ran across the road. She was just about to reach the footpath when a car came straight towards her. Her reflexes did not work. She froze on the spot. But to her relief someone wildly tugged at her. She fell to the ground. The letters in her hand lay scattered. She could save one of them but the others were blown away by the gushing wind. Her father quickly helped her get up and walked her to the car.
They drove away. Daisy was shocked. As they drove Daisy could hear a heart wrenching voice calling her name. She knew it was AMMY. But in reality AMMY was no one. The letters were nothing but her memories and her will to stay there in the same town where she had spent her childhood. It was her childhood soul and her past years calling her from the town she was about to abandon.
