I can recall with perfect clarity the day when I met these two 'insignificant creatures' for the first time. Little did I know then that they would turn into such a big and important part of my life.
2nd April, 2007
First day of the session. The Day session. A
completely new world! From being the senior most
and badge holders in the morning-session to puny
big-eyed kids of the day. The first day of class wasn't
at all what I had expected. Instead of allowing me
to sit with my friends, our class teacher made me
sit with the tiniest girl I had ever seen, a scared little
bag of bones, clutching onto her bag and belongings
as I made my way next to her. I did not even bother
asking her, her name. (Later she turned out to be
Anjali Priya, a girl with whom I share all of my
secrets now). The next day, ma'am changed my place
again, seating me next to a pig-tailed, red-vested,
scary looking girl whose excuse to any and everything
that I asked her to share - "My mother will scold
me!! Yes, she was the kind of friend' with whom I
conversed in English for one entire month, a girl
who hid her answer script with her hair during tests
(nonetheless, I still managed to get a peek at all her
answers!) 7 years later, she is the girl with whom I
have sat for the past (365.6) days, the one who has
visited my house for the maximum number of times,
the one who is responsible for 50% of my mobile
phone bill, the one whom I threaten that should she
break all contacts with me, I still have her parents'
phone numbers and even the landline number of
her native place, Jharkhand, the one whom everyone
knows by the name, Rakshita Ranjan.
Well, girls, this is to ensure that when you go through
your old school day's stuff, reading this might bring
back my face behind your eyelids. I spent the best
time of my life with you, and while I'm at it, why not
recall a few funny moments that we shared together.
I. Any other working day 2009
Class -8
Venue: Room No. 23
Class eight. The class where we actually started
feeling free and comfortable, cracking jokes with
the boys of our class. Every Thursday we had History
in the seventh period. A perfect time for a short visit
to the wash room and a quick walk down the
corridors. Or in short, intentions of missing the first
few minutes of class, (Yes, what else do you expect?
We were learning the ways of the day.) So as usual,
when madam entered the class, Anjali and I went
to her to ask for permission. But surprisingly, she
sent us back to our seats. Things were running
normally until, halfway through the class, when
madam made us stand up and said, "I understand
why you people go out every day. To meet your boy
friends!!"
Yes, we spent the remaining half of the class with
our mouths open.
(P.S. We did not have any boy friends then and still
don't!!)
II. When the entire school was preparing for the'
annual programme 2009
Class -8
Venue Room No. 23
Our favourite spot was the last bench. And that is
where we sat most of the time, a medium-sized
window behind our seats (that's the smallest window
present in our entire school!), the only ventilation
in the only stuffy MPB classroom. As I had recently
acquired glasses, I always sat at the first bench while
copying any notes written on the board. One fine
day, as I was doing so, I could see Rakshita talking
to some boys (namely, Prahar and Ritwik) and giggling. But since that's what she did most of the
time, I decided to ignore her. As the bell rang,
indicating the beginning of the zero period, I went
back to my place. When the prefects came to inform
us about who should report where, suddenly I felt
a jerky movement, and the next thing I knew, I was
sitting on the floor, 50 students laughing at me.
Turning a shade of red, I vowed to take my
revenge, which I eventually did by not showing my
answer sheet to them during certain unit tests!
All those good times we have had together, all those fun moments, ringing the calling bell and running away, laughing madly over silly stuff, trying to make
one laugh when somebody is reading out loud in
front of the class, Writing all those stupid things on
the board, calling each other by great nicknames,
etc. will never come back. It's not easy summing up
each and everything in just one article. And honestly,
I am too lazy to write down everything. So l'd like to
end here saying "Heres to Never Growing Up!!" May
we never grow apart.
