Once I was a willow tree in my years of youth. I used to stay with my other willow friends, laughing and talking to them as well as enjoying the time with nature.
Suddenly, the day came when we were chopped off in to logs of wood by the wood cutter with their saws and axes. The day was the most painful and saddest day of my life as I parted from my home. All of us were unaware of the fact as to what our future would be.
Some of us had trembling premonitions of being burnt in the fireplace to warm and save the elite citizens from the discomfort of cold while the rest were guessing a long journey to the factories tor making boards and papers.
But something else was in store for us; our doubts were cleared when we went to a factory manufacturing Cricket Bats. We had to go through a lot of pain when the workers shaped us into slender and sturdy bats. Then they painted us in splendid black and energetic red colour. Being the most superior quality of willow, I was sent to a huge and crowded market where people were staring at me eagerly; I knew that I was the most beautifully packed bat with spectacular colours. later I was bought by the world renowned batsman Sachin Tendulkar, at that point of time I felt honoured to be a Cricket Bat which belonged to the Master Blaster. Still, I can feel his touch which I will never forget. He regularly took me for his daily practice where I was admired by the fellow cricketers. Even though a lot of people wanted to play taking me in their hands, Sachin would never allow others to touch me, and I liked his possessiveness very much as he took good care of me. I proudly reckon that I was the unsung hero who had participated in the last 20 centuries Sachin had scored. I was proud to be a part of India's pride in the world of cricket.
As time passed by, the paint faded away and I was replaced by mud all over. I was upset as I had lost my glamour. I could understand that I would not be part of Sachin's next success, yet I cherished every bit of my glorious past. Even after not being a part of his matches Sachin always carried me as his lucky charm.
It was last winter when Robin, a promissing under nineteen young cricketer came to meet Sachin, his real life hero. Robin was the man of the match in the under 19 series and due to his outstanding performance, Sachin had gifted me to him. He put his valued signature on my proud chest and handed me over to Robin. Robin was extremely overwhelmed on getting me with Sachin's priceless signature. He caressed me as his most valued lifetime gift. Here my another journey begins with Robin. I am happy but I know that, now I have become old and fragile and I have no idea as to how long I can accompany Robin in this professional world.... but I hope that one day he will also shine like a star and bring laurels for India. I may not be a part of the matches yet my best wishes will always be with him.
